About Mary Momoko Zielie, LPC
You don’t have to carry this all on your own.
I’m an Anchorage-based therapist specializing in trauma and grief therapy, using EMDR, Brainspotting, and parts work to help you process what has been difficult to carry alone.
Does it ever feel like you keep ending up in the same place?
Hi, I’m Mary.
Maybe you remember a time when you felt more like yourself. Or maybe, after years of adapting, protecting yourself, or carrying what happened to you, you’re still trying to understand what feeling like yourself even means.
Old patterns may keep resurfacing. You may feel disconnected from your body, uncertain about your reactions, or discouraged when healing seems to move forward and backward rather than in a straight line.
If you have ever asked yourself “Am I actually getting better?”—you are in the right place.
I work with people navigating trauma, grief, and experiences that can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves. My work supports the possibility of post-traumatic growth while helping you develop greater steadiness, agency, and self-trust.
Trauma and grief rarely follow a predictable path, and I don’t believe therapy should force you into one. Rather than relying on a single technique, I use a fluid, orienting framework I created Anchor. Ascend. Become.™to help us understand where you are and what may be most supportive now.
Sometimes, we need to Anchor: finding enough steadiness and connection to be with what is here. From there, there may be room to Ascend: building capacity, recognizing new possibilities, and responding with intention and purpose. Over time, Become can emerge as you live with greater coherence and trust in who you are becoming as survival takes up less space.
The space between the ways you once learned to protect yourself and how you want to live now is not always simple to navigate. Those patterns are also shaped by the relationships, families, cultures, and environments that have surrounded you.
That is why understanding the whole person matters to me. My own experience as a biracial, 1.75-generation Japanese American who has lived across different cultures and communities has shaped the way I think about identity, belonging, and healing.
These parts of your story can help us understand how you came to relate to yourself and the world around you—and what might make something different possible now.
At the heart of my approach is a simple belief: healing is not about getting every response “right.” It is about developing enough connection with yourself to understand what is happening, respond with greater choice, and find your way back to yourself again.
